30 Ton Hydraulic Press (Jan 2016)
This project started with a
need to press in wheel bearings as well as forming bends in
1/4" steel plate for making brakets.
After looking at what was
available I decided most were not substantial enough for my
needs and many reviews show their frames bending and
buckled.
My aim was to build a 30 ton press
which would not deflect at the central support by more than
0.1mm (0.004") at a full 30T pressure.
I also wanted the frame wide
enough to take a minimum of 600mm between uprights.
The uprights are made from 100mm x
20mm steel bars. 2 per side so 4 in total. They were stacked
and clamped together before being drilled and reamed to take
the support pins.
The frame is bolted together with M14 high tensile bolts so
it can be taken apart should I need to.
